Kepak Group has launched its Young Farmer Forum in Wales, a 12-month programme designed to give the next generation of farmers practical insight into the UK beef and lamb supply chain from farm to fork. The initiative was unveiled at the Welsh Winter Fair and brings together young beef and sheep farmers from Brecknock County, the feature county for the 2026 Royal Welsh Show.
Frances Thomas, Kepak’s UK Sustainability Officer, who comes from a family farm in the Brecon Beacons, said: “Young farmers in Brecknock are keen to innovate and build profitable, environmentally responsible businesses. Our programme will help them understand processing, sustainability, and the consumer demands that drive high-quality red meat.”
The forum highlights Kepak’s commitment to supporting a sustainable livestock sector while nurturing future farming leaders. Gethin Harvard, President of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society, added: “This initiative encourages collaboration across the supply chain. Working together is key to securing a sustainable future for livestock farming in Wales.”
Kepak’s flagship site in Merthyr Tydfil plays a central role in the UK’s beef and lamb supply chain and generates around £200 million in local economic contribution each year through employment and livestock purchases, supporting local jobs and farmers.
